The problem isn't your business it's your mind

Episode: Your Business Isn't Stressful, It's a Problem with the Mind

Recorded on a misty walk across the North York Moors (with the occasional appearance from Mabel), this episode is one of Gemma's most honest and personal yet.

If you've ever felt like your business is the source of all your stress, anxiety, and overwhelm this episode is going to shift something in you.

Gemma takes us back to 2017, when she attended a yoga retreat and a three-day event with Sadhguru, both of which carried the same profound message: no work is inherently stressful. It's what's going on inside us that's the problem.

At the time, Gemma was running her aesthetics business with two young children, quietly grieving the loss of her grandmother, and carrying a weight of fear, people pleasing, leaky boundaries, money blocks, and deep-rooted limiting beliefs, all of which were showing up in her business as chaos, overwhelm, and a desperate urge to run back to the safety of the NHS.

Years on, the clarity is undeniable: the business was never the problem. It was the reflection.

In this episode Gemma explores: How your struggles in business, difficult clients, slow growth, financial blocks, running yourself ragged  are always a mirror of what's happening internally Why coming from a healthcare background can leave you wired for hypervigilance and fear, and how that programming follows you into your own business

The role of solitude, nature, and somatic practices in creating real connection with yourself How self-sabotage quietly keeps us from receiving joy, success, and peace  and why that pattern almost always traces back to something much earlier in life Why awareness alone is 90% of the healing work

The difference between reacting from fear and responding from a regulated, conscious place

Why your best work, your best decisions, and your biggest opportunities only come when you feel safe, open, and at peace inside Practices Gemma recommends integrating:

Somatic movement: yoga, Pilates, walking, breathwork ,anything that helps release stored energy from the body Daily heart-centred breathing: even 5–10 minutes of eyes closed, hand on heart, deep intentional breath Time in solitude, especially in nature Self-inquiry: asking yourself what a current struggle is showing you, without needing the answer immediately

This isn't about strategy. It's about you. Because when you evolve from the inside, the business follows.

Key themes: mindset, inner work, nervous system regulation, self-sabotage, fear, people pleasing, boundaries, somatic healing, spirituality, solitude, aesthetics business
